And just like that, we have come to the end of the 2025 Yamaha Young Soloist Music Competition.
All rounds completed, and a final gala evening that ran smoothly from start to finish. What a success all around.
As this was our second year running the YMC, we were able to make several improvements, from the entry process right through to the final performance. That said, we have also identified a few minor areas for improvement, which we will work on ahead of the next competition.
But for now, allow me to pause and share some of the highlights from YMC 2025.
On our side, I have learned that planning, organizing and executing a competition like this is all about teamwork. My sincere thanks to Tracy Hilliar and the entire team at Yamaha Music SA for a job exceptionally well done.
Just as young musicians rely on the support of parents who drive them to lessons, wait patiently outside, invest in private tutoring and instruments, and encourage practice when motivation dips, we too relied on the dedication of a committed team to bring this event to life. Teachers who devote hours of emotional, mental and physical energy to their students play a massive role behind the scenes. It is this collective effort that few people see when they sit down to enjoy what is hopefully a great performance. That same spirit is what makes the YMC possible.
A big thank you to the Marketing team for the value they added, handling all the advertising and social media support we needed.
To our panel of adjudicators, thank you for the important role you played throughout all three rounds. The gala evening was a particular highlight, with internationally recognised musicians sitting on the panel and contributing to its success.
From Yamaha’s side, our goal is to grow this competition into a well-recognised event on the national music calendar. We want it to become a space where young talent is nurtured, celebrated and uplifted.
It was wonderful to see musicians return to YMC this year after taking part last year. While it is always tough for those who do not place at the gala event, I would like to encourage them to keep going. There is so much ahead, and this is just one step on a much bigger journey.
In closing, my heartfelt thanks go out to every single person who contributed to YMC 2025. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Best wishes
